Switch from Unifi to Maxis Fibre — Without Double-Billing

The right sequence to move from Unifi to Maxis Fibre in 2026 — same fibre cable in most areas, no service gap, and eligible for the current Football Fever promo (iPad device deal on Home Zerolution).

⚽ Maxis Home Fibre Football Fever · 1 May – 30 Jun 2026
Switchers on 500Mbps or 1Gbps (Maxis Postpaid) can get an iPad 11″ on Home Zerolution — from RM10/month (500Mbps) or RM1/month (1Gbps), 36-month device contract.
✓ No service gap ✓ Avoid double-billing ✓ Same fibre (in most areas) ✓ Promo for switchers
Quick answer — the right sequence

Do NOT cancel Unifi first. The correct order is: (1) check Maxis coverage at your address, (2) sign up Maxis Fibre, (3) install & test Maxis, (4) then submit Unifi 30-day termination notice, (5) return Unifi modem within the 5-day window. This way you never have zero internet and you don't double-pay.

Why People Switch from Unifi to Maxis Fibre in 2026

This isn't a comparison page — if you're still deciding, see Maxis vs Unifi. These are the common reasons our customers give after they've already decided to switch:

💰

Stronger promo for same speed

Maxis's Football Fever campaign (iPad device deal from RM1/month on Home Zerolution) is competitive with Unifi's current offers for the 500Mbps and 1Gbps tiers.

📱

Bundle with Maxis Postpaid

Converge discount stacks lifetime rebate on fibre. One bill, one support channel.

📺

Don't want Unifi TV bundle

Maxis doesn't force-bundle IPTV. Cleaner bill if you only want internet.

📶

WiFi 6 router + Mesh option

Maxis includes WiFi 6 certified router; Max WiFi mesh available from ~RM19/mth for bigger homes.

🔁

4G LTE backup (Prime plans)

When fibre line goes down, Maxis Prime plans include a 4G backup dongle. Unifi does not offer this.

🤝

Local dealer support

If you're in Sarawak, our team handles port-in sequencing so you don't navigate TM and Maxis alone.

Honest note: If Unifi is working well at your address and you're near contract end, the gain from switching may be smaller than you think. Switching mainly pays off when you want the current promo, move to a higher speed tier, or bundle with Maxis Postpaid.

The main guide

5-Step Unifi to Maxis Fibre Port-In

Follow this order and you'll never lose internet, never double-pay, and qualify for the full switcher promo. Wrong order = service gap or two monthly bills.

1

Check Maxis coverage at your address (FIRST)

Before anything else, confirm Maxis Fibre is actually available at your exact address. Most areas share TM's HSBB fibre — but "most" isn't "all". Port-full status is a real risk in dense zones.

Check coverage →
2

Sign up Maxis Fibre (keep Unifi running)

Submit your Maxis application while your Unifi is still active. Pick your speed tier and (for Postpaid customers) the Football Fever iPad device deal on Home Zerolution. Maxis books your installation appointment.

⚠ Do NOT cancel Unifi at this step. You need internet while Maxis is being set up.

3

Install Maxis + test for 3–7 days

Technician installs Maxis ONT + WiFi 6 router. Usually 40–90 minutes. Once active, test speed, latency, and WiFi coverage across your home for a few days while Unifi is still your backup.

Some addresses reuse the same fibre cable (just reconnected to Maxis equipment). In that case, Maxis activation may briefly interrupt Unifi — coordinate the install timing with our team.

4

Submit Unifi 30-day termination notice

Only AFTER Maxis is working, submit your Unifi termination. TM requires a 30-day notice via customer service (walk-in TM Point / web / email / social media). The monthly Unifi fee still applies during the 30-day notice period.

If you're still within your Unifi contract, see the contract penalty section below.

5

Return Unifi modem within the 5-day window

After your 30-day notice, TM gives you a 5-day window (Day 31–35) to return the Unifi modem/router at a selected TM Point. Miss this window and the termination process restarts from zero — meaning another 30 days of Unifi billing.

⚠ Not all TM Points accept termination returns. Check in advance which branch handles it.

Still Within Your Unifi Contract? Calculate the Math

Unifi termination within contract means you pay the remaining monthly fees as a penalty. This can be significant. Do the math before switching — sometimes it's cheaper to wait a few months until contract end.

Example scenarios

  • 12 months left on Unifi 100Mbps RM129: Penalty ≈ RM1,548. Hard to justify switching unless the Maxis savings + iPad device deal recover this within 24 months.
  • 3 months left on Unifi 300Mbps RM199: Penalty ≈ RM597. Usually worth switching — Maxis promo + iPad easily offset this.
  • Contract expired / month-to-month: No penalty. Just submit 30-day notice after Maxis is installed.

Our honest advice: If you have more than 6 months of Unifi contract left, let us calculate the real break-even point before you commit. Sometimes the best move is to sign up Maxis only when your Unifi contract is 3 months from ending — aligns well with signing up under the current promo.

How to Avoid Paying Both Maxis and Unifi Bills

The main reason people lose money when switching is poor timing between Maxis activation and Unifi termination. Here's how to minimize the overlap.

Minimum overlap

~1 month of double-bill is normal

Even with perfect timing, you'll pay both providers for roughly 30 days (during the Unifi termination notice period). This is unavoidable.

Offset with promo

Time your switch to cut the overlap

Time your Maxis sign-up so installation completes just before you submit the Unifi 30-day notice. That keeps the paid overlap to roughly one month — ask us about any current intro offer that can offset it.

Worst case

Missing the 5-day modem return window

If you don't return the Unifi modem in Day 31–35, TM restarts the termination. Another 30 days of Unifi billing. Set a calendar reminder.

Handling the Unifi Termination Side (TM's Process)

We handle Maxis sign-up. You handle the Unifi cancellation (by law, account holders must submit termination themselves). Here's what to expect from TM.

  1. Submit 30-day termination notice — via TM Point walk-in, Unifi web form, email, or social media. Quote your Unifi account number.
  2. Pay during the 30-day notice — monthly fees continue. Plus any contract penalty if applicable.
  3. Receive modem-return instructions — TM tells you the nearest TM Point that accepts returns (not all branches do).
  4. Return Unifi modem/router within Day 31–35 — miss this and the whole process restarts.
  5. Receive final bill — any remaining charges settled. You're done with TM.

Common pitfall: Submitting termination via social media and assuming it's processed. Always get a ticket/reference number and follow up if you don't receive modem-return instructions within 7 days.

Unifi to Maxis Switch — FAQ

Can I switch from Unifi to Maxis Fibre using the same fibre cable?

In most areas, yes. Maxis and Unifi both run on TM's HSBB fibre infrastructure at the last mile. Your physical fibre cable stays — Maxis just reconnects it to their equipment and provisioning. We still need to confirm your exact address's port type before signing up.

Does Maxis handle my Unifi cancellation for me?

No. By TM policy, the account holder must submit Unifi termination themselves (walk-in, web form, email, or social media). We can guide you on timing and what to say, but the actual termination request must come from you.

What is the current Unifi to Maxis promotion?

Maxis Home Fibre Football Fever (1 May – 30 Jun 2026): switchers on 500Mbps (RM139) can get an iPad 11″ 128GB from RM10/month, and on 1Gbps (RM159) from RM1/month, on Home Zerolution (36-month device contract). The 300Mbps (RM99) tier gets the lower monthly rate. While stocks last.

Will I have no internet during the switch?

No — if you follow the correct sequence. Keep Unifi active while Maxis installs and activates. Only submit the Unifi termination notice AFTER Maxis is confirmed working. This way your Unifi runs during the 30-day notice overlap, and you're never offline.

Will I pay both bills during the switch?

For about 30 days, yes — the Unifi 30-day termination notice period. You can reduce the impact by timing your Maxis sign-up close to your Unifi termination and asking us about any current intro offer. Aim to keep the paid overlap to about one month.

What if I'm still under Unifi contract?

TM charges the remaining monthly fees as a penalty. For example, 12 months left on a RM129 plan = RM1,548 penalty. Calculate whether Maxis savings + the iPad device deal offset this over 24 months. If not, wait until close to your Unifi contract end before signing up Maxis to minimise penalty overlap.

How long does the whole switch take?

From sign-up to fully out of Unifi: about 6–8 weeks. Breakdown: 3–10 days for Maxis installation booking, 1 day installation, 3–7 days testing, 30 days Unifi notice, 5 days modem return window.

What happens if I miss the 5-day modem return window?

TM restarts the termination process from zero. That means another 30-day notice period and another month of Unifi billing. Set a hard calendar reminder for Day 31 of your termination notice.

Can I keep my Unifi email or phone number when switching?

Unifi email addresses are deactivated after termination — migrate any important mail to Gmail or another provider first. Your mobile number (if separate from Unifi) is unaffected. Voice line included with Unifi fibre may be terminated with the fibre service.

Can I switch back from Maxis to Unifi later if I don't like it?

Yes, but the same port-in rules apply in reverse — plus you'd be under a new Maxis contract (typically 24 months), and breaking it means penalty. Our advice: test Maxis thoroughly in the 3-day testing window before cancelling Unifi. That's your low-risk exit point.

Is the Maxis installation as fast as Unifi's?

For addresses where the fibre is already installed (most urban areas), Maxis installation is usually 3–10 days from sign-up. For brand-new addresses needing physical cabling, 2–4 weeks is typical. Book early during peak promo periods.
